Therapy Dogs

Studies have shown that the presence of animals can improve wellbeing and lower anxiety levels in young people (further information can be found here). We are lucky to have two therapy dogs at Borden; Hazy and Cassie. Each fulfils a slightly different role. Hazy is based in the library on a Tuesday and Thursday, providing general wellbeing support for students. Cassie attends on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and is more actively involved in supporting students in her walk and talk sessions.

We have a number of measures in place to ensure the welfare of the dogs, handlers and students:

  • Independently assessed for suitability by Canine Concern (Registered Charity Number 1177334 CIO).

  • Vaccinated, parasite treatments and health checks in line with veterinary guidelines.

  • 3rd Party Liability cover.

  • Specific Borden Grammar School risk assessment.

If you have any concerns, feel free to contact the school at any time. If you do not want your child to interact with the therapy dogs, please complete this form.
